Why Sleep Matters for Learning
Many students believe that studying late into the night is the best way to prepare for an exam. However, research on memory suggests that sleep plays an important role in learning. During sleep, the brain processes and organizes information that was studied during the day.
Students who regularly get enough sleep often remember information more effectively than students who reduce their sleeping time in order to study longer. This does not mean that sleep can replace studying. Rather, effective learning depends on both careful study and enough rest.

How Cities Are Adapting to Extreme Heat
As summers become hotter, many cities are looking for ways to reduce the effects of extreme heat. One common strategy is to increase the number of trees in urban areas. Trees provide shade, but they also cool the air by releasing water through their leaves.
Some cities are also changing the materials used on rooftops and roads. Dark surfaces absorb large amounts of heat from sunlight, while lighter surfaces reflect more of it. By using reflective materials, cities can reduce the amount of heat stored in buildings and pavement during the day.
However, these solutions are not equally effective in every neighborhood. Planting trees requires space, water, and long-term maintenance, while reflective materials may be expensive to install. For this reason, city planners often combine several strategies rather than depending on only one.
